Frequently Asked Questions

Is my notebook private? Who can access it?

Your editable notebook lives at a private URL that includes a long random id (for example: https://clipnotebook.com/<uuid>). This id is a cryptographically-strong, unguessable identifier and is not listed or indexed by us. In practical terms, only someone who has the exact URL can open and edit your notebook. Treat it like a key: keep it private, save it in a secure place (password manager or notes), and avoid posting it publicly. If you ever believe the URL leaked, you can create a new notebook and move/import your content, then stop using the old URL.

Notebook URL vs. Share links — what’s the difference?

Notebook URL (example: https://clipnotebook.com/3f4d…) opens your private, editable workspace. Keep this URL secret.
Shared links (example: https://clipnotebook.com/n/ee1e… or /p/xyz…) are read‑only snapshots created when you use the share button. They show what your notebook/playlist contained at the moment you shared it. If you edit later, the old shared link does not change — just create a new share link to capture the latest version.

Shared IDs (/n/<id>, /p/<id>) are different from your notebook’s workspace id. Removing the n/ or p/ won’t reveal your notebook — they are separate routes with different identifiers.

Do I need an account?

No. ClipNotebook is completely free and works without a login. Your notebook is identified by a random id inside the URL. Save that single notebook URL (https://clipnotebook.com/ + id) in a safe place. Clearing browser data without saving it can mean losing access. One saved URL replaces dozens of scattered links.

How do I share a playlist or the whole notebook?

Use the share buttons on the main ClipNotebook page to create a read-only snapshot link. Anyone with that link can view it. Friends can also import a shared playlist into their own notebook so your curated resources become part of their collection.

What if I clear my browser cache?

If you clear local data but kept your notebook URL you can reopen ClipNotebook and everything loads. If you lose the URL it is like losing the key. Save it in a password manager, notes app, or send it to yourself. If lost entirely contact support@clipnotebook.com and we will try to help, but recovery may not be possible.

How are my links stored?

Links are kept on our server so they load when you return and lightly cached in your browser for speed. We only keep the minimal info needed to render clean cards (title and image when available).

Can I change playlist colors?

A color from the palette is assigned when a playlist is created. If you want a different color you can recreate the playlist (add a new one) then move links, and delete the old one. If you delete a playlist by mistake contact support@clipnotebook.com quickly so we can check options.

Is ClipNotebook free?

Yes. ClipNotebook is completely free. Save, organize, and share without payment or forced upgrades.

Best ways to use ClipNotebook?

  • Research: Group important articles and documentation for a topic.
  • Study: Build subject playlists and share one link with classmates.
  • Creator workflow: Collect inspiration and tool references.
  • Social bio hub: Share one notebook link containing project playlists.
  • Team onboarding: Provide a curated resource list for new members.

How do friends add my playlist?

Open the shared playlist link. Use the import option to add it into their own ClipNotebook so they can extend or reorganize locally.

Can I recover a deleted playlist?

Deleting removes it from normal view. Contact support@clipnotebook.com immediately with details; recovery is not guaranteed so saving your notebook URL and acting fast is important.

What makes ClipNotebook different?

It replaces scattered bookmark folders with visual playlists and one saved URL. Fast, clean, private, and shareable without forcing accounts.
